Wedding Hair and Makeup FAQ

What is the wedding hair and makeup booking process?

At Jennifer Janssen Bridal Artistry, we know how important it is to feel confident about your wedding beauty team. That’s why we highly recommend booking your Milwaukee, Lake Geneva, Madison, Waukesha Bridal Makeup Artist and Hairstylist from our talented team, 6-12 months in advance to secure your spot!

Ready to make it official? It just takes a $150 non-refundable retainer and a signed contract to secure your day. Once that’s done, you’re officially booked—and one step closer to feeling fabulous on your wedding day! Don’t wait—lock in your dream team today!

I’m not sure of my exact headcount at the moment.  Can I still book now?

No need to worry about a final headcount right away—we don’t require your final numbers until 6 months before your wedding day.

To secure your date, we just ask for a minimum of 5 services per stylist, whether it’s hair or makeup. If you’re booking within that 6-month window, no problem! We’ll work closely with you to finalize your numbers and assign your perfect stylist or makeup artist.

When should I schedule my wedding hair and makeup preview?

We highly recommend scheduling your bridal preview about 3 months before your wedding—close enough to the big day to keep your look fresh in your mind but far enough to make any tweaks if needed.

How do I know if I want to book if I don’t do a wedding hair and makeup preview first?

Have you connected with us on social media and read some of our reviews? Jennifer Janssen Bridal Artistry only posts real clients and real results.  Our makeup artists and hairstylists have a flawless track record with our brides, and we intend to keep it that way.  We’re versatile and great listeners.  You have nothing to worry about!

Do I have to do a preview?

We do not require a preview in order to book with us, because we understand every bride’s needs are different, however it is recommended.  We understand that there are certain circumstances in which a preview is not in the cards.  If you are able, this is a great opportunity to really work together to design your dream look and see how it wears on you throughout the day.

What should I bring to my wedding hair and makeup preview?

Inspiration pictures, veil/hairpiece, clip in extensions (if applicable), jewelry as well as any questions for us.  We also recommend wearing a white or light-colored shirt to avoid color reflection.  If you plan to have a spray tan for your wedding, let’s try one out for your preview as well! Skin care is INCREDIBLY important leading up to your preview as well as for your wedding day, so let’s make sure you have a routine you love! If you need esthetician or spray tan recommendations, we can help you with that as well.

What accommodations are needed on site on my wedding day for hair and makeup?

Our hair and makeup artists will need some table space, an outlet and a chair per artist.  Makeup artists need a barstool height chair, and hairstylists need a standard height chair.  Most hotels and venues are prepped for this.  Ideally, makeup artists would love to work near a window, but it’s not a must.  We bring our own lighting.

How should my party and I prep for my wedding day?

Freshly washed and FULLY dried hair is best.  Super curly hair can be blown out with a flat brush if we’re not working with your natural curls.  No flat ironed hair.  Don’t forget fresh cut and color about a week before.  Waxing (such as brows) should be done at least 3 days beforehand. Establishing a skin care routine in the months leading up to the date is highly recommended. Clean faces, with no skin care oils or serums applied the day of are best for a beautiful makeup application!

How long does hair and makeup typically take?

Depending on your artist, we typically allot 30-45 minutes per person per service and an hour and 15 for the bride.  Depending on timing and other factors, with more than 10 people, we will book 2 artists to cut down on time.

If I wanted to do two looks for my wedding day or have touch ups throughout, are you available to stay on site?

Yes!  Jennifer Janssen Bridal Artistry has an hourly touch up rate based on hours booked.  Time starts when services are completed and is based on artist availability.

What are the benefits of booking with a team as opposed to hiring them separately with individual stylists/artists?

Booking with our team guarantees a seamless, stress-free experience with consistent quality, a well-organized schedule, and a cohesive, professional look. With a single point of contact managing logistics, contracts, and payments, brides can focus on their big day without the extra hassle. Plus, we always have a reliable backup plan in place, ensuring that even if an artist or stylist is sick, you’re fully covered.
