Wedding Hair and Makeup FAQ
What is the wedding hair and makeup booking process?
At Jennifer Janssen Bridal Artistry, we know how important it is to feel confident in your wedding beauty team. We recommend booking your bridal hair and makeup artists early—ideally 6–12 months in advance—to ensure availability for your date.
Our award-winning team proudly serves all of Southern Wisconsin, Northern Illinois, and the Minneapolis–St. Paul area, bringing luxury on-location bridal beauty directly to you for a calm, seamless, and unforgettable wedding morning.
Ready to make it official?
To secure your date, all we need is a non-refundable retainer and a signed bridal contract. Once completed, your dream beauty team is officially reserved and one step closer to creating your perfect wedding-day look.
Don’t wait—lock in your bridal hair and makeup team today and enjoy peace of mind knowing your beauty details are in expert hands.
I’m not sure of my exact headcount at the moment. Can I still book now?
Absolutely! There’s no need to have your final headcount right away. We don’t require your confirmed numbers until 6 months before your wedding day.
To secure your date, we simply ask for a minimum of 5 services per stylist (hair or makeup). If you’re booking within that 6-month window, no problem — we’ll work closely with you to finalize your numbers and assign the perfect bridal hairstylist or makeup artist for your day.
Our award-winning team serves Southern Wisconsin, Northern Illinois, and the Minneapolis–St. Paul area, offering luxury, on-location beauty services for every bride.
When should I schedule my wedding hair and makeup preview?
We recommend scheduling your bridal preview session about 3 months before your wedding. That timing keeps your look fresh in your mind while allowing time for any adjustments.
Our preview sessions are available throughout Milwaukee, Madison, Lake Geneva, Janesville, Beloit, Waukesha, and the Twin Cities to make it easy and convenient for you.
How do I know if I want to book if I don’t do a wedding hair and makeup preview first?
Have you connected with us on social media and read some of our reviews? JJ Bridal Artistry only posts real clients and real results. Our makeup artists and hairstylists have a flawless track record with our brides, and we intend to keep it that way. We’re versatile and great listeners. You have nothing to worry about!
Do I have to do a preview?
We do not require a preview in order to book with us, because we understand every bride’s needs are different, however it is recommended. We understand that there are certain circumstances in which a preview is not in the cards. If you are able, this is a great opportunity to really work together to design your dream look and see how it wears on you throughout the day.
What should I bring to my wedding hair and makeup preview?
Inspiration pictures, veil/hairpiece, clip in extensions (if applicable), jewelry as well as any questions for us. We also recommend wearing a white or light-colored shirt to avoid color reflection. If you plan to have a spray tan for your wedding, let’s try one out for your preview as well! Skin care is INCREDIBLY important leading up to your preview as well as for your wedding day, so let’s make sure you have a routine you love! If you need esthetician or spray tan recommendations, we can help you with that as well.
What accommodations are needed on site on my wedding day for hair and makeup?
Our artists just need a few simple things to create a smooth setup on your wedding day:
Table space for products and tools
One outlet and one chair per artist
Makeup artists prefer a barstool-height chair
Hairstylists need a standard-height chair
Working near a window is ideal for natural light (but not required)
Most hotels and venues already have these basics covered, and our team brings their own professional lighting.
How should my party and I prep for my wedding day?
Freshly washed and FULLY dried hair is best. Super curly hair can be blown out with a flat brush if we’re not working with your natural curls. No flat ironed hair. Don’t forget fresh cut and color about a week before. Waxing (such as brows) should be done at least 3 days beforehand. Establishing a skin care routine in the months leading up to the date is highly recommended. Clean faces, with no skin care oils or serums applied the day of are best for a beautiful makeup application!
How long does hair and makeup typically take?
Depending on your artist, we typically allot 45 minutes per person per service and an hour and 15 for the bride. Depending on timing and other factors, with more than 10 people, we will book 2 artists to cut down on time.
If I wanted to do two looks for my wedding day or have touch ups throughout, are you available to stay on site?
Yes! Jennifer Janssen Bridal Artistry has an hourly touch up rate based on hours booked. Time starts when services are completed and is based on artist availability.
What are the benefits of booking with a team as opposed to hiring them separately with individual stylists/artists?
Booking with our team guarantees a seamless, stress-free experience with consistent quality, a well-organized schedule, and a cohesive, professional look. With a single point of contact managing logistics, contracts, and payments, brides can focus on their big day without the extra hassle. Plus, we always have a reliable backup plan in place, ensuring that even if an artist or stylist is sick, you’re fully covered.
